PHASE FOUR’S INNOVATIVE THRUSTER TECHNOLOGY ENABLES PREVIOUSLY UNAFFORDABLE OR IMPOSSIBLE SPACE MISSIONS.
The P4 Radio Frequency Thruster (RFT) is a new system designed for small satellites while being scalable to large satellite and even launch vehicle applications. The RFT was inspired by technology developed at The University of Michigan and licensed exclusively to Phase Four for commercialization.
Phase Four has completed build and test of the initial prototype, has a space demonstration planned in early 2018 and is currently taking customer orders.
DESIGN MADE SIMPLE.
STANDARDIZED AND SCALABLE.
RFT is a complete propulsion solution that includes a thruster, Propellant Management Unit (PMU), Power Amplifier (PA) and Engine Controller (EC), all in a compact and scalable CubeSat form factor.
With a compact thruster capable of providing large Delta-V (ΔV) (> 1km/s) to small satellites, a huge variety of new missions are available. Small satellites and CubeSats are no longer restricted to the orbit of the launch vehicle and, with the P4 RFT, can maneuver themselves into highly elliptical orbits, geostationary orbit, or polar orbits. With enough ΔV, CubeSats could reach the Earth-Moon or Earth-Sun Lagrange points.
Significant cost savings come from being able to deploy an array of satellites from a single launch vehicle, fanning them out to create a global network. Other possibilities include cluster formation flying and long-lived low altitude orbits.
